Wedding Ceremony

To Audience: You may be seated.

Dearly beloved, we are gathered here in the sight of God, and in the presence of this company, to unite Travis Phipps and Brandy Benson in Holy Matrimony.

The marriage of two Christians is viewed by God as an occasion of great joy since it marks the beginning of a relationship that is second only to a personal relationship with the Lord himself. It is only through Christ that marriage becomes what God intends it to be.

Let us acknowledge His place in this ceremony and seek His blessing on this union. Please bow your head with me as we pray.

Prayer:
Dear Lord, this is a happy, yet solemn occasion which brings us together. We are assembled for the purpose of uniting Travis Phipps and Brandy Benson in the beautiful and sacred bonds of marriage. Believing that God instituted marriage we gladly invoke Your blessing upon this couple and this occasion. We are mindful of you Lord. We are aware of your mercy and celebrate in your goodness. We thank you today that we are able to be a part of your great plan, that before the foundation of the world you knew us and purposed these things. Bless and anoint this marriage today by the power of the Holy Spirit, bless both Travis and Brandy. In Jesus name. Amen

Giving Away of the Bride:
Knowing that you are in the will of God and that you have the blessing of your families, I now ask "Who gives this woman to be married to this man?"

    Red: Her mother and I
(Brides father lifts the veil and then places Brandy's hand in Travis' and is seated)

To the Audience:
Brandy and Travis thank you for being here with them today. You are not here simply because of tradition but you are here by divine appointment to bear witness of this miraculous union that is taking place. Along with their parents a number of you have been involved in teaching them the Christian life. You have taught them the values they live by today. Thank you for your dedication. Each of you have had a part in making this wedding possible today. Some of you have come from a distance to be here. Thank you for taking the time to be here today.
Travis and Brandy have prayed and waited for this day. They believe with all their hearts that it is God's perfect will for them to be married. I encourage you to do everything in your power to see that this union remains strong, happy, and prosperous. Remember to pray for them as they begin life together.

Vows of Intent:
To Travis: Travis, God has ordained the man as the spiritual head of the home, as the responsible provider, and as the initiator of love in his human relationship. By His enablement, your strength must be Brandy's protection, your character her pride and you must so live that she will find in you the haven which her heart desires.

To Brandy: Brandy, it is God's purpose that you be a loving wife to Travis. That you respond to his love in tenderness, with a deep sense of understanding, through a great faith in Christ who brought you together. Brandy, you are to be subject to Travis in the Word of God.

To Both: Travis and Brandy, understanding as you do the heart and mind of God concerning marriage, do you promise before God and those gathered that you will love each other always, and be ever faithful, until God's return, or until one shall lay the other in God's arms?

Travis and Brandy respond: We do.

(Ascend up the stairs to the platform. Brandy and Travis face each other)

Travis repeat after me: I, Travis, take you Brandy, as my wife from this day on. In accordance with God's will, and with His help, I promise to love you every day of your life. For better or for worse, in difficult and pleasant times, in days of poverty or prosperity, in hours of sickness or good health, to care for you needs, and be considerate of your wishes, to love and to cherish, as long as we both shall live.

Brandy repeat after me: I, Brandy, take you Travis as my husband from this day on.

Exchange of Rings:

to Travis: what symbol do you bring as a pledge of your vows?
Travis responds: a ring (Jesse will hand Travis Brandy's wedding ring; Travis will hand to Dad)

to Brandy: This ring is more than a symbol of your marriage. It is a seal of the vow you have made to one another. Historically, rings have been used in sealing documents and proclamations as a symbol of authority; you are now accepting this authority in your life.

(Give ring back to Travis) Place this ring upon the finger of your bride and let it be the seal of your love, mutual affection, and faithfulness to her and a memorial of this sacred service. Repeat after me: I give you this ring, as a symbol of my covenant and abiding love for you. I give you my name and all that I am. I will love you and care for you with all the strength that God gives. I seal the vows I have made to you.

to Brandy: what symbol do you bring as a pledge of your vows?
Brandy responds: a ring (Amber will hand Brandy Travis' ring; Brandy will hand to Terry)

to Travis: this ring is a seal of Brandy's vow to you. This is a symbol of leadership and privilege. God has placed you as the head of the family. You are now accepting the leadership of worship, works, and fellowship in your marriage.

(Give ring back to Brandy) Place this ring upon the finger of your groom and let it be the seal of your love, mutual affection, and faithfulness to him and a memorial of this sacred service. Repeat after me: I give my name for yours. I give you myself and all that I am. I seal the vows I have made to you.

Unity Candle/Signing of Family Bible

Travis and Brandy are going to light the Unity Candle, a symbol of their marriage relationship. The candles from which they light the unity candle have been lit by their mothers to represent their lives to this moment.

The light from each of these candles represent the faith, wisdom, and love they have received from their parents,a and are distinct, each burning alone. Travis and Brandy will light the center candle to symbolize the union of their lives. As this one light burns undivided, so shall their life and love be one and undivided.

May the radiance of the unity candle be a testimony of your unity and commitment to each other, and the light from the other two candles a tribute to your parents' lasting and loving marriages.

They also desire to establish God's Word at the center of their home. After lighting the Unity candle they will sign their family Bible.

(Move out of the way while Amy sings "I Will Love You", Travis and Brandy light the Unity candle. Jesse and Amber will join them in signing the family bible)

Dedication of Marriage to the Lord:
You have exchanged your wedding vows and we come to the part of this marriage ceremony where you dedicate your marriage and newly formed family to the Lord Jesus Christ.

To Travis: Your mother and I have taught you from the beginning of your life about Jesus Christ and His love for you, His death, burial, and resurrection. We have instructed you in His Word and we know that you have given your life to Him. Our prayer is that you will continue to follow Him, allowing Him to always be your guide.

To Brandy: I know your parents love the Lord. They have taught you of Christ's Word and I know your testimony of salvation and your love for the Lord. Your parents have a few words for you. "How do we put into words what you mean to us? You have accepted our instruction and teachings. You have listened to God's call on your life. Now go with our blessings and become a wife.

A marriage is more than a union of two people, it is also a union of two families. Your marriage establishes a relationship between our two families.

Brandy, Welcome to our family. Irma and I prayed from the time Travis was born that he would marry a committed Christian, who was raised in a Christian environment, and with a life long commitment to marriage. We believe you are that person. Travis, Brandy's family welcomes you into their lives. They have this to say to you, :"Travis, you are a prayer answered. A very blessing from God to our daughter. We receive you with open arms and into our hearts.

Because we are all part of the family of God through the Lord Jesus Christ, you are now dedicating your marriage and future to the Lord. You have decided that your first act of dedication as a family is to take communion.

It was the commandment of our Lord that His followers should continue to break bread and drink the cup of blessing just as He and His disciples had done on the eve of His crucifixion. Today, Travis and Brandy joyfully follow that command.

(Amy will sing "I Surrender All" during communion)

The Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread; and when he had given thanks, he brake it and said, take, eat: this is my body which is broken for you: do this in remembrance of me.

After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had drank, saying, this cup is the new testament in my blood, this do you as oft as you drink it, in remembrance of me.

After song move back to front of platform

Prayer:

Presentation of Couple:
May these two find happiness in their union. May they live faithfully together, executing the vows they have made between them; and may they ever remain compassionate and encouraging, that their years may be rich with the joys of life, and their days long upon the earth.

From this day forward you shall be each other's home, comfort, and refuge.

You, Travis and Brandy, have pledge your devotion to each other. It is not these words that have made your marriage real, but the God of love, who has welded your hearts together as one.

Two lives are not united by ceremony, but only in the power, love, and grace of God.

In as much as you have each pledged to the other your lifelong commitment, love and devotion, by the authority invested in me by the fellowship of the Assemblies of God and the state of Texas I now declare you man and wife.

Travis: you may kiss your bride
